The journal states its purpose is to help reflect back on daily routine and to act as a “time capsule” of experiences. What have you recently had a revelation about?
That it’s okay to pursue what I want. I know that sounds silly, but I am finally allowing myself to acknowledge my wants and pursue them, mainly with my home. My partner and I both grew up poor so we are rather money conscious. We never want to be in a position where we don’t have money for our basic needs. Therefore, much of what we buy is off brand or second hand.
This actually has caused some frustration with our home after we bought our house. We didn’t have any furniture beyond a mattress, so most of the furniture we bought was either from resale shops, thrift stores, or just cheaper furniture. Most of the furniture we first bought when we moved in 6 years ago has been replaced, donated, or broke.
This past year I finally told my partner I am tired of trying to make what we have work, and that I wanted to buy what we actually wanted. They agreed and we have been slowly acquiring the items we want for home. I can’t tell you what a difference it has made. My next purchase will probably be a couch since the only one I’ve ever owned as an adult was used as my bed when I lived with a friend…
