QotD is a feature dedicated to answering questions from Piccadilly’s 5 Year Question a Day Memory Journal. The journal states its purpose is to help reflect back on daily routine and to act as a “time capsule” of experiences. As someone who laments their awful memory, I thought this was a wonderful tool and opportunity.
What did you learn from last year?
Ignorance truly is bliss sometimes. Due to certain event that happened in the recent past, my mental health took a nosedive. The worst part is, had I not known about this event, .it would not have affected me. My life changed for the worse simply having learned about a situation that wouldn’t have affected me otherwise.
I changed as a person afterwards but not necessarily for the better. Yes, I became more caution and observative. Under different circumstances, it could be considered a good thing. However, the paranoia and anxiety that came with it, absolutely destroying my mental health in the process, was not a fair tradeoff.
I am very a much a risk vs reward kind of person. I also feel like someone does not need to go through trauma to grow and be a better person. This was definitely a trauma I didn’t need.
