Take the sun seriously, my friends.
I grew up spending my summers in the country. I am no stranger to sunburns and the need for protection from it. That being said, I legit had sun poisoning for the first time that I know of.
I forgot to grab sunscreen, or any sort of protection really, and spent a lovely afternoon on the lake, paddle boarding with my niece. By the time I noticed my dry burning lips, it was too late.
Sunburns don’t bother me as much as I feel they should. However, everything hurt. And not just my skin. I had muscle aches and cramps and generally all the usual symptoms that accompany dehydration. It wasn’t until I was projectile vomiting out of the side of my partner’s car that I actually thought it could be something more serious. I had been mildly nauseous since getting in the car, but an hour into the 2 hour drive I begged them to pull over. I was vomiting so hard that I had to brace my knee on the dashboard to keep myself in the car. I am used to nausea, but I can count on one hand how many times I’ve actually vomited in the past decade and one of them was COVID.
Bottom line, summer is just starting. Take care of yourselves. I am a grown adult. I know better. While I enjoyed my day with my family, it was honestly stupid and irresponsible to let myself get so burnt.
